I can't even watch news anymore, seeing the students going crazy and destroying everything in sight is really not funny anymore.
I never had the privilege to attend University, we didn't have that kind of money. I finished school and went to work staring a a very low job, paying peanuts but then what can one expect when you don't have a qualification. It was my choice, I didn't cry, toy toyi or whatever. My husband, one of four siblings paid his way through University, working by day, attending classes after hours and studying at night. Neither expecting anything but where our own hard work would get us.
Fast forward 30 years, 22 years after 1994 and the current young people who never had to struggle, who didn't know what their parents sacrificed under apartheid. Yet here they are and telling the world that they are 'owed' everything for free!! If that is not enough they destroy the very infrastructure that they need to get tat education. The mind boggles at their rationalization!
Of course the current ruling party is in a sense responsible. Empty promises and lies BUT what is even worse is the fact that these so called 'intelligent' students don't 'get' it!
Economics 101. How are Universities funded?? Don't know?? In which case I say you do not have the 'brains to actually attend University.
Let me explain in simple terms .......
A University does not generate an income like a business and therefore is dependent on moneys received. Government is the biggest supplier of these funds AND since government does not generate an income WHERE does the money come from??? Still don't know???
Let me explain, it comes from the TAXPAYER! Yes people who work hard for their money! So basically, government gets the money from the people and then subsidizes each student attending University. Following me so far??
The University needs x amount of money to function, they subtract the amount received from government and the difference between running cost and moneys received - that is called FEES. No the maths is rather simple - the more money received from government the less the fees needed the less the money received from government the greater the fees. Voila basic maths!
So when Blade said it is the University that must decide on the fees - HE IS LYING or rather he is bullshitting you BUT the best is that YOU believe him!! That is dumb!
There are countries where higher education is free BUT those countries have accountable governments, taxpayers that declare their taxes and pay up to 50% tax, their VAT is also far higher than SA - so basically 75% of their earning goes to the state coffers which then go to the people. NOT Nkandla or fancy cars or jets or overseas shopping sprees and goodness only knows what else!
So for you to have freebies the mentality of the government and all the tax dodgers and crooks needs to change AND YOU - YES you also need to change your mentality and attitude!
Destroying what you need IS NOT the way to protest! Protest where it counts - Parliament, Luthuli House and the Union Buildings! Burning down and breaking the Universities means that even less money will be available for your studies!! Is that so difficult to understand???
Further you DO NOT have the right to tramp on other students rights! You are NOT fighting for ALL students - many have the BRAINS to actually understand that NOTHING in life is FREE! We as parents understand that nothing buys nothing and we as taxpayers do not appreciate what you are doing! NOT one little bit! Burning and vandalizing property is a crime and should be punished BUT you all use the race card when confronted with the law!
I d not mind my money being used to help pay your tuition above the tuition fees that I am paying for my own kid and therefor I do not accept your behaviour! Hooligans must face the full brunt of the law and if found guilty be banned from setting foot on a day campus and should be banned for two years from studying at any long distance institution. This will hopefully teach you a lesson and make you see the error of your ways and hopefully make you understand that the sunshine doesn't come from you rear end!
